Provide peace of mind to your target audience and you’ve taken a step to ensuring their loyalty. National Crime Prevention Month, each October, presents the perfect occasion to show customers how much you care by promoting tips and tools that not only keep them safe, but worry-free.

Tie into your service/product. For example, banks can give away imprinted belts with hidden money pockets or miniature portable safes. An outdoor landscaping company might send out flashlights with a note stating how a well-lit, pristine yard deters robbers. A car dealer might offer a personal alarm/key chain to anyone who comes in for a test drive during the month of October.

Provide a community service. Sponsor crime prevention coloring books/materials in your local schools. Host a safety tips seminar at your business at which local police, security firms, and self defense experts speak. Or invite parents to bring their children by your business to receive an ID Kit to keep important information handy in case a child goes missing.

Plan a crime-prevention direct mail piece for October. You could include “security” decals for home windows, a mouse pad imprinted with online theft prevention tips or – for fun – a Crime Buster themed music CD, which features songs from popular crime-fighting TV shows.
